About Port Denison Sailing Club

HE Port Denison Sailing Club in Bowen celebrated its 150th anniversary with a special regatta, run in conjunction with the North Queensland Cruising Yacht Club (NQCYC) 2 years ago.

The club, which is the second oldest off-beach sailing club in Australia, has a proud history of dingy sailing, with past members sailing Cobra Cats, 16 foot skiffs, windsurfers, Gwen's and Sabots.
Now lasers and optimists are sailed from the club, with the weekend's event also including classes for Sabots, Arrow Cats, Nacras, Tasers, Flying 11's, 29'ers and 420's. .
Attracting 77 entries, including Whitsunday sailors, the two-day program was held in champagne sailing conditions with winds of between 15-20 knots.
